My Christnas gift is helping me get fit.

Wednesday, January 24, 2018

My daughter gave me a Fitbit for Christmas and I have been using it everyday. I started at 5000 steps as I haven't been active since the snow came. I walked 6000 steps today and did stairs at the library for 10 minutes. I found that I wasn't doing stairs well a couple weeks ago so decided to try doing more. I had a total knee in Oct 2016 and have been having trouble with stairs since.
I go to the local Price Chopper or Walmart to walk (I'm going broke from finding things I need/want on my walks).
I have been using SP to keep track of my calories and have lost only a measly 5 lbs. but I can see how good my legs feel and how strong they are getting. I'm using weights to firm up my arms as I walk around the house. Usually, I would have given up or gone back to my old routine by now but maybe I will stick with it. I'm trying a low carb diet and I still need to tweak it as I'm finding I'm eating too much fat and not enough protein. At least I'm not starving all the time.

Things were going well but the weather (snow, cold, bad roads) has been a problem here. I went to 3 stores yesterday to walk. I did the dollar store, Aldi and Price Chopper. I walked around and around for about 1 hour. When I looked at my Fitbit it had not moved. So, lol, I learned you have to move your arms when walking to have it track steps. Who knew?

Todays excuse is I played games with two friends for 4 hours so didn't get many steps in. I will walk around the house from room to room to get step in tonight. I think having a bit of fun and relaxation is good for you so it wasn't a wasted day. I even won twice!

Yesterday, my daughter and I walked at the school. She is a teacher there and we put our coats in her room and walked up and down and around the corridors for 30 to 40 minutes. I got up to over 7000 steps and got to do steps a few at a time.

Today, we went back and her husband, daughter and 5 year old granddaughter joined us. We were there an hour but it was fun and it didn't feel like exercise even on the stairs. Of course the 5 year old ran circles around us. We were there an hour but it flew by.

At the school we read the signs: no bullying, it doesn't cost anything to be kind, respect others, do your best. They should add : One step at a time and Every step is a step toward your goal.

So we read them out loud and gave the 5 year old a lesson as well.
I walked over 8300 steps so far today.

Good for you! Dearly Beloved and I found a mall that is one mile around the inside perimeter where we walk when it is bad.
