Not Perfect!

In this third week of the new year, I may not be perfect but I am still working my plan and chipping away at my goals, revealing the rock solid core within!

At the beginning of the new year, I realized that for the past months (years?) I had only been able to stick to my plan 2 days of every week and going off track 5 days. In the first week of the year, I flipped it, sticking to my plan 5 days and failing to do so only two. How have the last two weeks been? Hmm… let’s look.

Ok, the 2nd week of the year, I stuck to my plan for five days and off for two. Last week, not so great, 3 on and four off. What went wrong? Well, it seems that in the week after my birthday, we had a little too much celebrating. A little too much chocolate left over from Christmas. And a couple nights where I said, ok, I guess I can have a glass of wine (or two) that I hadn’t planned for.

Enough is enough! Time to get back on track and stick to the plan.

I’m giving myself credit for staying on track with exercise, focusing mainly on ST and yoga, with just a little cardio for good measure. (Running!)

I’m still planning and preparing dinners in advance and tracking ahead of time, but I’ve stopped keeping a Beck checklist of things that I already do pretty automatically (eat sitting down, giving myself credit, weighing myself daily) or track somewhere else (exercise and nutrition on Spark). I stopped because I felt like I was doing most of the things, and the ones I wasn’t doing required a more strategic approach, i.e. figuring out and addressing WHY I wasn’t sticking to my meal plan (not enough advance planning and prep). Looking back at the checklist, I notice that there are a couple things that I could do more regularly, like reading my Advantages of Losing Weight card that reminds me WHY I am doing this and other response cards that remind HOW to fight back against cravings, and I will make that a regular practice.

There are times when my OCD list-keeping works for me and other times where it works against me. I think I’ve found a good balance for now.

This week’s dinners:

Monday: Shrimp and pasta
Tuesday: Chicken and sweet potato chili
Wednesday: Wonton vegetable soup (yes, cheating with prepared wontons)
Thursday: Chicken Sweet potato Chili
Friday: Salmon and vegetables

Next week, I want to make mediterranean lemon and olive chicken and enchiladas. Mmmm...

On other fronts… I have an appointment with an acupuncturist on Friday for my neck pain. Hopeful that it helps! (I’ve stopped taking all but a minimal amount of ibuprofen because of side effects.) I am also working on practicing my art more and I’ve done a few drawings, working up to painting.

    The menu looks great! I've been craving Mexican food lately so your mention of enchiladas has got me salivating.
    Tonight we had wild Alaskan sole fillets with brown basmati rice and steamed broccoli. First, I toasted some pine nuts (small handful), ground them with the mortar and pestle, turned the nuts out into a small bowl, added a bunch of fresh chopped basil and a dash of lemon juice and a wee bit of sea salt, then after lightly greasing my baking dish and placing the fillets (5 pieces) in it, I topped the fish with the pine nut/basil paste, pressing it down with a fork. It took a short time to bake (20 - 25 minutes at 230 degrees F - we cook all our meats now at 230 degrees because we are following a hypotoxic diet), so I put the rice on first then prepped the fish. OMG! It was so good. Pine nuts def have a bacon-like flavour. JF gave it two thumbs up and we are going to keep that one in rotation.

    We are not held to a standard of perfection . . . but you are definitely honing in on just the right balance. Love the sound of that chicken/olive/lemon dish, would like to try it!!

    Good job getting focused.. Those darn birthday celebrations can throw us off track. The good news is they only come around once a year. Enjoy the week.
