Good start to the year weight wise, but really, not the recommended approach to losing weight. You see, I woke up on New Years Day, after having stayed out until about 1 AM the night before (the first time I'd been out on New Years Eve in many many years), with an aching body. I managed to stay awake through the Michigan football bowl game, where the Wolverines turned a 19-3 lead into a 26-19 loss, and that performance made me sick. Well, sicker than I'd already started becoming. I got hit, as you may have seen coming, by some massive flu like symptoms. I didn't go in and get it confirmed, as the worst of it lasted just 2-3 days, even if that included a very high fever (103 at the worst) and a friend who happens to be an ER doc insisting I call in to the neurosurgery team that took care of my pituitary tumor over the summer to see if the ol' brain might be affected.

Fortunately, that wasn't the case. And, after all was said and done, if it was the flu, I suspect I had a mild version, perhaps due to taking the flu shot, perhaps just from luck. Compared to some of the tales of woe people are mentioning on facebook, I was lucky to just have three days of, granted, intense body aches, headaches, chills, fever, and fortunate to not have the nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that also accompany many cases of flu.

And after it was all said and done, I'm down about 6 pounds a week later. Like I said, not the recommended way of going about it, but I guess I'll take it.
