Words of wisdom?

Friday, January 12, 2018

Good afternoon and happy Friday!

I have a request. Do any of you have teenagers?

I'm trying to make my teenaged daughter understand that she will get a lot further getting what she wants if she expresses gratitude and appreciation instead of resentment and bullying.

Is this an 'it comes with age' thing?

For example, she has her driver's permit. She needs time behind the wheel practicing. I understand this. However, instead of asking me and using her manners and if I say not right now because of whatever reason, she gives me attitude and stomps off or keeps bugging me and making digs until I'm pissed, she's pissed, and I either give into her or I don't and then she doesn't talk to me for days.

Is this a teenager thing? I was never a 'typical' teenager - I was always really close to my mom, so I'm in unfamiliar territory...

I raised 5 and that's fairly typical behavior.

I raised three boys and I understand that raising girls can be a more dramatic experience. Whenever I had a problem with my children's behavior, I would call a meeting and everyone would have input. I'd get buy in on how to fix the problem.
