National Get Organized Month

Wednesday, January 10, 2018

This is our assignment for the Aspire and Inspire sparkteam: January is National Get Organized Month. Are you naturally organized? If you are, what organizational tips do you have? If you aren’t, would you like to get better organized in any areas?

I am becoming more and more organized the older I get. For organizing my time, I love lists and calendars. For organizing papers, I use binders and files. For organizing my things, I try to have a place for everything.

For information and inspiration about organizing, I like both Alejandra Costello ( ) and FlyLady ( ). I use Pinterest, too. Here are some questions that I gathered from Pinterest to ask yourself about your things when you are decluttering:

-Do I need this?
-Does it bring me happiness?
-Do I have a realistic plan to use this?
-Have I used this in the last year?
-If I were shopping right now, would I buy this?
-Am I saving this just in case?
-Is this item worth the time I spend cleaning/storing it?
-Do I have a similar item that serves the same purpose?
-Am I holding on to this for sentimental reasons?
-Is this item worn out or broken?

Here is a good list of general organizing tips:

Finally, here are some organized cats emoticon :

ha ha I love the cats . I will check out Alejandra.
One of the things I do is I label my containers.I have a lot of beautiful Christmas items so it helps in labeling each one.
I once held onto things people gave me because of fear if I got rid of it I was throwing part of that person away.I no longer keep so much of the things..
As far as my magazines every 3 months I take them to a center which they are grateful for
.Another thing under neath my 2 sinks I have every thing in a container looks much neater. I had gone thru my linen closet that was bulging with bath towels. I went to town on that closet ,plus piles of sheets. So much more neater.
    Thanks for your blog

Great blog! I loved the organizing tips and fun picture of the cats. I used to do Flylady - I learned some great tips from her decluttering that helped me when we downsized from a big house in PA to our smaller home in FL. I will have to check out Alejandra Costello.

emoticon Sounds like you are well on your way to being organized. I am a work in progress. I know the basics, but have to make time to do the sorting and discarding. I love the Simple Steps to Staying Organized. I do well on most of them during the week, but not so much on the weekends. . Thank you for sharing.

emoticon Thank you for posting these resources. We all need reminders to organize and de-clutter. It's sort of like the laundry - always there is more to do! emoticon

I love the cat organizer. My experience with cats is quite a bit messier than that picture. Thanks for brightening my day.
