After not making my 49,000 steps last week I have decided to truly take matters in to my own hands, or feet as it was. Last night was my first step in making sure this week is more successful.
DH was stuck working late so I cleaned up the kitchen, took the dogs out, did a few things and then watched some television. As I waited around for DH, I realized I only had 4,000 steps for the day. With it being cold and a little bit icy outside, I couldn't really go for a walk. Rather than sit there and admit defeat after eating my dinner - I walked. And walked. And walked. Now I didn't go anywhere - but in place and pacing back in forth in our small living room, I watched television and by the time DH came home an hour after I started walking - I had my 7,000 steps for the day!
Today I plan to keep my 7,000 steps again, hopefully going higher since Tuesday is one of the days I go to Crossfit. I typically find it easier to get my steps in those days, but with an additional focus I'm hoping to hit 8,500-10,000 steps on my Crossfit days. I guess we shall see! In order to do that, I've been walking around the office and I plan to go for a walk outside this afternoon at work. With a staggering high of 40 degrees it's more than pleasant enough outside for a 10 minute walk around the office park!
This morning I had another day being successful with the snooze button. I've really found the best days of not hitting snooze is when I do Yoga - so this morning was no exception. During my practice today I concentrated on a quote that the teacher in my video says that I think has been very fitting for me already in 2018.
It really speaks to me and my current state of mind and potential for the year. I'm also trying to find a word for the year to truly focus on to improve my year. Why a single word for the whole year you ask? Many of you have probably seen the new "MyIntent" trend. I find it to be a bit trendy, but something I completely agree with.
The idea is to have one word on your body at all times to focus on for the year for self improvement. But how do you find your word? Below is the process MyIntent suggests.
STEP 1 - Start with a question.
"Choose one or two of the following questions and jot down the first words that come to mind:
What’s a goal of yours?
What brings you joy?
Is there something that you want to let go of?
Is there something you want to improve upon?
What energizes you or makes you feel like your true-self?
STEP 2 - Develop.
What’s holding you back from achieving the the answers in Step 1? What WORD, as a daily reminder, would help you achieve what you seek from Step 1?
For example, If you want to start your own business but have some doubts you’d like to overcome, you could choose a word such as BELIEVE, COURAGE, or IGNITE. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you may choose a reminder like BREATHE, STRENGTH, or FAITH.
STEP 3 - Identify your word.
You may have come up with a few words, and that’s ok, but what is the one WORD that is the most important, the priority, to begin working on today?
Declare outloud “My WORD is ___________!”
For me, after going through this process, I'm torn between a few words. They include Movement or Journey. To me, my goals for the year are about moving forward, are about advancing my Sparkpeople journey, my Crossfit journey, etc and about literal movement - walk more, get more fitness minutes, etc. Any votes for either? Or another suggestion for my word?
Below are some beautiful examples from instagram of what others have used as their word.
