Slow progress with pneumonia. . . . . . . ...

Monday, January 08, 2018

Day before yesterday was a good day. I felt easier and deeper breathing. Yesterday was a bad day -- weaker, shallow breathing and a new pain in my lung. More coughing too. I was probably too active day before -- I went out (to see Star Wars) for the first time since New Year's Day when I returned from the hospital. The docs said I wasn't contagious last week, but I've continued to be very very careful about spreading germs. The difference between being drugged up at home versus drugged up at the movies is apparently the too strenuous activity of riding in a car! I see the doc on Wednesday.
But overall, yeah, I do feel slightly stronger. I've been challenging myself to "walk the circuit" of: up the stairs, through the hall, down the other stairs; repeat. I've gone from 2 to 5, at a minute a lap. That's measurable! It's important to me to know if I'm getting better, and progress is so slow that you can't really see it on a daily basis.
I confess, I'm afraid. My antibiotics Rx ran out Saturday... will I make it to Weds. without getting worse? I really don't have anything for the pain -- just ibuprofen -- which should help with the pleurisy too (anti-inflammatory)... but man, THAT pain is severe!
Thank goodness I feel much better today than yesterday. The trick is to not over-do it.

I see the doc on Wednesday 10th.

Are you humidifying the air? That was top my priority in recovery from pneumonia. I found that even wearing a mask in the house was helpful to keep my air moist - easier to breath - also used good old "love rub", vicks vapo rub on my feet and chest - really relaxed the muscles and made me feel like I was taking care of me - and yes on the feet is important then a pair of big socks on them to keep them warm. and REST inbetween your exercises and "chores" .

I continued to walk before I was even diagnosed with pneumonia. Even after finishing my medicine, it took an additional 2 weeks for me to have full lung power again.

What you are going through is almost identical to what I went through last August when I had pneumonia.
