We went in to sign the lease on the apartment Saturday morning. When we went to do the walk-through, the place was a disaster. There were nail polish stains on the counter in one bathroom. The shower curtain pole was broke in the other. There were paint stains on all the floors where someone had walked through the paint and tracked it all over. The laundry room shelf was covered with cobwebs. There were bugs in the light fixtures and some didn't have any working bulbs. The one wall had cobwebs. There was a water stain and falling dry wall in the living room. The kitchen hadn't been cleaned at all. The balcony was a mess. Cobwebs covered everything. A spot had rotting wood. The storage didn't even have a lock. The leasing agent said she would give up time to look through it and left. When we went back to the office, she had gone to lunch.
We came home and put a stop payment on the check. When she finally got back in the office, we returned the key. (She said we normally get two but she couldn't make another one.) She tried to say that we had taken possession; when I mentioned the 3-day law, she said she never heard of that.
After we left, we stopped by another apartment complex. The agent let us look at the apartment that was vacant and ready. Absolutely spotless and everything in working order! The porch was even screened in. It was spacious, bright and welcoming. What a difference.
Our dog, Sadie, isn't any better at all. It's been a struggle to get her to eat anything. She's only had a couple bites all weekend. We've come to the conclusion that we can't have her suffer. My other half has had her for the entire 12 years and I think he's still holding out a bit that she will improve today. But I know in my heart it's time to say goodbye. I'm just glad that all dogs go to Heaven.
