Blog 7 - Eating What Works for Me

Every time I start back along the long and treacherous journey to a healthy weight I get caught up in eating all the things that I am "supposed" to eat. In theory this is great. Eating a wide variety of fruits, veggies and other healthful things is awesome for your body. The problem is, I wind up eating things I don't like because I think I SHOULD like them...and this often leads to failure down the road. Now, I'm not saying I shouldn't eat healthy foods. I'm not even saying I shouldn't continue to push the boundaries of what I am comfortable eating. I am simply saying eating what I like and what is maintainable (and fits within my daily nutrition goals) for my lifestyle is much more likely to lead to success! It sounds pretty simple and obvious but it was a big revelation for me today.

Saturdays are always a busy day for me. I usually run all the errands for the week because it is my only day that I am home. Today I brought the kids to get a new game for their 3DS which happened to be right beside a sushi place. Being out at lunch time can be dangerous but I figured sushi was better than the golden arches (and was preplanned - if only an hour before). It wasn't the lowest calorie choice but it wasn't the worst thing either. If nothing else, it was delicious!

Tonight was family game night. We played Trivial Pursuit Family Edition (a family Christmas present). We all really enjoyed it...I came in second place to my 7 year old son :) My kids are now snuggled up in their beds...well actually my son is in my bed. He struggles with anxiety and night time is really hard for him. I am heading off to the gym any minute. I plan to do 20 minutes on the elliptical and 40 minutes on the bike (20 minutes of hills).

I weighed in for my 5% challenge today. My starting weight on December 22 was 240. I am down to 229 as of this morning. I am sure a good part of that was water weight but I have been working really hard the past few weeks and staying mostly within my nutrition goals. My goal over the course of the challenge is to lose 11.5 lbs. I am hoping that is manageable! GO WEIGHT WARRIORS!

    I have a lot of FB friends doing Keto or Paleo, and they rave about "zoodles" in place of pasta. I don't like zucchini. pretty much the only way I will eat it is chopped up and "hidden". Now it is an awesome veggie, with many bebefits, and I should eat it, but nope. Feel the same way about eggplant. I have changed my mind about sweet potatoes, but only because of the purple Okinawan ones. Find the foods that work for you, and the diet that works for you, not just for now, but for your healthier lifestyle. Keep on Sparking.

    emoticon Sushi is a GR8 choice!! Sounds Delicious emoticon . I'm all about doing what works for you. Tweek things as you go.. I hated counted calories! soo I stopped! emoticon I'm enjoying the process much better and eating more intuitively is actually working great for me. Go figure only eat when your hungry! emoticon Awesome job getting to the gym and Rockin It out emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I prepared a HelloFresh! Meal tonight that came with carrots and parsnips. Love raw carrots, cooked not so much. Never really had parsnips so I thought I would give them a try. Left most on my plate, just couldn't do it...eat something I didn't really like. I really wish I liked more vegetables but I just font think it will happen :(

    Yeah I came to the conclusion that I am not going to realistically start liking foods I never liked before. I also can't afford some of the exotic power foods that are recommended. I agree with you .
