AYITL - Blog #139 - 2018 Goals

Since the year is not quite over, I'm holding off for a few days to reflect on my 2017 goals. With that in mind, I decided to start planning my 2018 goals. This year I decided to keep things a bit simpler. After thinking about it over the last few weeks I came up with the following 2018 goals:

-Log in to Spark People all 365 days of the Year
-Log 8,000 Fitness Minutes
-Read 12 Books
-Average 49,000 Steps Per Week on Fitbit
-Have a Trackable Monthly Goal Each Month

In order to write these goals, I did have to reflect on my 2017 goals. I didn't want to just add more recipes, or more Crossfit classes to my numbers from last year. I didn't want to go after a goal I didn't reach again. I wanted to change things up but expand on items (but in different ways) to make sure I am always growing.

emoticon Goal 1 - Log In to Spark People 365 Days of the Year
Last year in order to keep consistency I elected to try to stay under 125 lbs for 3 months. Tying a weight to New Years Resolutions hasn't brought me much success in the past. This year, rather than put a weight to it, I've decided to focus on just showing up. The most days I've ever logged in in a row was just over 200. While some weekend days I literally just log in and spin the wheel for points, I find that even that keeps my health and wellness top of mind. If I'm seeing even just flashes of the Spark People Website it reminds me "hey don't eat that donut for breakfast after this login, eat some egg whites!"

emoticon Goal 2 - Log 8,000 Fitness Minutes
My focus in 2017 was to make sure that I attend more Crossfit classes for the year. For 2018, my focus is going to be to increase my time training- but to allow myself to do it across the board. Currently in 2017 I have 7075 fitness minutes logged. An increase of around 1,000 minutes will be a stretch, but a very attainable stretch. In order to meet this goal I plan to increase the amount of times I ride my bike to work, continue going to Crossfit 2-3 days a week, and to start doing yoga and running again . I also plan to do activities like paddle boarding while we're on vacation, using YMCA guest passes when visiting my parents, and finding local hiking trails and activities for DH, Amelia and I to enjoy on the weekends.

emoticon Goal 3 - Read 12 Books
Sometimes I'm great at getting away from the television and reading. Honestly, most times I'm not. I still have 2-1/2 books to read from our vacation last April! I hope to get those 3 books read, along with 9 others. With receiving my Kindle Fire for Christmas - this should make it easy! When I go to bed ahead of my husband at night, I'm thinking some nights I can spend 20 minutes reading instead of watching television. I also think I should start reading on my lunch break some days rather than surfing the internet (or writing blogs like this one- but don't worry - I won't disappear!) First stop, finish The Golem and The Jinni!

emoticon Goal 4 - Average 49,000 Steps Per Week on Fitbit
Being active is proven to make you happier and healthier! Sometimes being active starts with a single step! My goal on my fitbit is to walk 7,000 steps a day. I don't always make my goal but most days I'm close. In order to keep myself motivated on lazy days, cold days, busy days, etc - I'm going to try to get in as many steps as possible - aiming for my 7,000 a day and allowing ups and downs with an average of 49,000 a week!

emoticon Set and keep monthly trackable goals. A few years ago I did Abby's Awesome April where I set a number of goals and kept track of them on a calendar. In the past I've done a full month without restaurants or alcohol. This year it's my hopes to do something different every month of the year. Some current ideas include:
-No restaurants
-No alcohol
-Clean 20 minutes a day
-Contact family in some way each day
-Track food every day
-Read every day
-5 Servings of fruits and vegetables each day
-Meditate for 15 minutes each day
Obviously some of these items are old, and some are new. As the year goes on, I will also be open for suggestions!

Don't fear that there is no goal for blogging. I plan to continue to chronicle my goals for next year just as I did this year! Thankfully the last year has turned it in to a habit that I really enjoy!

    You have great goals and inspire us always! I will continue with 30 minutes or more exercise each day. Joining the Winter challenge will be a biggie for me because teammates and I will try to increase the amount of exercise daily for team points. My biggest goal is to get my body ft percentage down 2%. My weight is about right for my age and height so, I know what I need to do to maintain that, but, get my percentages to a healthier level.

    Totally agree about the importance of logging in to this site every day! I like the 7000 steps goal - my Fitbit is set for a 10,000 steps goal and I tend to feel like I've failed on the days when I (more often than not) don't hit that.
