Christmas Ups and Downs

Saturday, December 23, 2017

Many of us experience ups and downs at Christmas. My negative yesterday was while having a facial. I had this same experience once before. While my eyes are covered with a hot towel, I had a panic attack. I was able to calm myself down after a short span of time. The first experience was worse. I actually went into the fight or flight response. (The fight or flight response refers to a specific biochemical reaction that both humans and animals experience during intense stress or fear. The sympathetic nervous system releases hormones that cause changes to occur throughout the body.) It is tough. I am fine now. It is just something that happens when you have a lot of anxiety.

Today is another day. We had family over to celebrate Christmas. It was the only day that we could all get together. It was a major success. We had lots of food, gifts and laughter. Holidays are the best. No matter what you eat or receive as a gift, it is the bond that we have with family and friends that makes everything special.

Tomorrow hubby and I will enjoy a nice dinner out. No matter where we go, I will be so thankful that he is with me. I no longer have my mother and father on earth. My brother lives hundreds of miles away. My hubby and I will spend the day together. I really don't need anything else. It will be a quiet and intimate Christmas Eve. emoticon

I'm so sorry about the panic attack. I had one and thought I was having a heart attack. Very scary stuff. My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend. My hubby and I are going out for Chinese. We started our own tradition. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Panic attacks are no fun. Glad you were able to get yourself calmed down. Sounds like a wonderful time with family yesterday. My husband and I don't get together with much family, just our kids and granddaughter. We open gifts at each others houses tomorrow (they live across the street) and then all go out together for dinner. Enjoy your day with hubby!

I have panic attacks sometimes, and they are indeed frightening. I'm glad you are doing okay now.

Your family get together sounds very nice, and the rest of your holiday plans sound wonderful too. I'm also looking forward to a quiet Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I had some fun with friends earlier in the week, but for the holiday itself, it's just my husband and I. (My parents and in-laws have also passed, and all my family lives three hours away, and we don't like to travel on holidays.) I think it's kind of nice, just having hubby and myself to enjoy the holidays. We have a very easy going approach...make meals when we feel like it, turn off the phone, take a nap, watch an old movie, listen to music...I'll probably work on a puzzle, and he'll play guitar. A nice relaxing few days...love it, especially after the somewhat stressful weeks of getting ready for the holidays!

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

We had one of those once, I think. Or maybe a time near Christmas and it was very nice.
