Use Less Stuff Day

Sunday, November 19, 2017

Yesterday was Use Less Stuff Day. For the Aspire and Inspire sparkteam, we are supposed blog about how we use less stuff. For one thing, my family had a garage sale a few weeks ago. We went through our whole house looking for things we don’t use any more. We sold a lot, and we gave all the things we didn’t sell to our church, which is having a huge garage sale as a fundraiser. In the past I have donated clothes to the thrift store, and books to the library. I also try not to buy a lot of things; to think about whether or not I really need them before purchasing. Lastly, we recycle. We recycle glass, plastic, cans, and paper on a weekly basis. That definitely helps the environment.

Having a garage sale is a great way to get rid of stuff that you don't need/want anymore. We usually just donate our things. We recycle as much as we can too.

Your garage sale was a perfect way to get rid of some of the stuff you don’t use, and then donating the rest was wonderful. We usually donate, but I am considering trying to sell some things we have on Facebook’s Marketplace, which I discovered recently. We do a lot of recycling, too!

I'm not big on acquiring material possessions and a big proponent on using less stuff. Many of my clothes are hand me downs or purchased at second hand stores. I donate lots of my no longer needed items to our church for their twice yearly clothing 'sale' ($1.00 for a huge garbage bag loaded). I also donate to the homeless shelter. I am an avid recycler and have been for decades.
