wednesday--dorijane update and other stuff

good morning! dorijane had her monthly visit with the chiro vet. she has been tolerating her new diet and the thyroid medicine well. in fact--as would be expected, the thyroid med. has made her a little more alert and energized, which is nice to see. it's kind of sad though--her spirit is still so willing and full of life and movement, but her body just can't keep up anymore. but she moves around quite well and can still do her walks at the park and loves to go--so for her age I am happy with it all.
my dearest friend in all the world, ardene, is dealing with a less happy situation with her little beagle, lily. Lily and dorijane are nearly the same age--I think their birthdays are a couple months apart. but lily has been having strange episodes of weakness and what possibly could be seizures. a trip to the vet revealed a liver that is about 6x the normal size and some abnormal blood parameters. she has ruled out any kind of treatment other than palliative for liver cancer, so they are just keeping her comfortable. she facebooked me about going for a little road trip to pick a quilt up from the machine quilter and stopping by a pottery spot she found. don't know what day this will happen, but no matter what happens--I am going with her. she needs a day out from what is a very intense life at the moment. her husband is being treated for prostate cancer, and her son just had surgery (minor--but still surgery) for a complication related to crohn's disease. she is always there for me--and I return the favor.
in other news--the planning for the kitchen store is moving along. I told Phyllis I need to go dark for a day or two. I want to throw some pots and have some time where I don't have to think about it too much. the menu is set, the tables are laid out (9 tables and about 100 things to sample overall). she is still finding people to help with the tables and she has to get her food order together and the recipe sheets edited. Friday I am going to the home of a former restaurant owner--she lends us warming trays and chafing dishes and whatever else we need. rob is working with sherri--they do live demos of the induction plates and the air fryer--sherri will be air frying cheese curds that can be sampled with toppings, and rob will be making pancakes and cheese quesadillas on the induction top. we tested the organic pancake mix last night--made very pretty pancakes that weren't huge on flavor, but really nice and light and fluffy. tonight we test the quesadilla recipe. Phyllis sent home a german diamondware nonstick pan for us to use--and is it ever nice! you can use metal utensils on it as long as you're careful. she told rob to keep the mustard he really liked when we tested it on the sausage bites too. one of the perks of helping her. she pays me too.
time to do leslie and then take ralphie to the park. have a great day!
