Armistice Day

Saturday, November 11, 2017

the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month is when the 1918 Armistice formally ending WW I was signed. Since 1954 we have called it Veterans Day. One of my old ships had a reunion in Norfolk in 2014 and 2016 in Warrenton, RI. We went to Falls Church, MA to tour the battleship ex-USS MASSACHUSSETS. I was one of three shipmates that read the names of our departed shipmates as another shipmate rang the ship's bell as each name was read, a pretty solemn ceremony. We then dropped a flower wreath over the side as our group's choir sang Eternal Father Strong to Save (one of my favorite hymns - right up there with Peace Be Still). Hoping all of you veterans and loved ones of veterans have a great day to appreciate each other and take time to remember those who we served with. youtu.be/5bv_91W
