I Have Willpower (Who Knew)

Willpower - also known as self-discipline, self-control, or determination, is your ability to control your behavior, emotions, and attention. ...
My biggest eating problem has always resolved around sugar. I remember eating out of the sugar bowl when I was young. My mother often caught me and I was disciplined. I went on to saving lunch money and stopping, while walking on the way home from school, at a drug store to buy candy. It probably cost 5 cents at the time....I am showing my age.
This went on for years with soft drinks, candy, cakes, ice cream - anything with sugar. I would wonder why my belly was so bloated and my weight increased. It is very difficult to stop this behavior. For me, I feel that it was similar to giving up cigarettes.
For Halloween this year, we bought chocolate candy a few weeks before the holiday. We opened the bags and put the candy in a large bowl which was visible, in the kitchen. I committed to not eating out of the bowl. I looked at the bowl everyday. The temptation was not as overwhelming. If I thought about the candy, my mind would tell me to not give in. I had such a desire to avoid chocolate and feel that sense of accomplishment. I am so happy that I achieved this goal. The candy would never be as pleasurable as gaining control over my "sugar fix" - I did it! I know that I can do anything I set my mind to doing. Setting a goal, and reaching that goal, is doable.
