Chapter 27, Day 7... soup is my secret weapon

Saturday, October 14, 2017

As I rise for the day, facing weight loss, feels like a battlefield to me. I know that sounds overly dramatic, but that is how it feels for me. And I pressed on. One of my weapons of destruction, is a healthy homemade soup. It's one of the best daily calorie management tools known to man. If I had a meal that was higher in calories, I could offset the rest of the day with my soup. If I had to work past midnight, always into more snacking in the past, I had soup. Soup is satisfying. Soup is good for the soul, a wholesome comfort food, and a food hug.

Yesterday, I hosted a lunch and had MIL over for a few hours to spend time with her new great grandchild. My friend with cat, a close friend of our family for years came too. I served spaghetti with meatballs and sausage, garlic toast, salad, and made the spark people recipe for apple crisp with a dollup of vanilla ice cream. I opted for spaghetti squash with some sauce and a 1/3 of a sausage and a huge plate of salad, and 1/4 cup of apple crisp, no ice cream. Battle won, yay me!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with new grandbaby. She is such a cute little cuddlebug! She is a very good baby so far. She couldn't be more loved.

Today, I have another food event, a birthday party at my sis's house. She'll have pizza and Buffalo wings, and birthday cake, and lots of unhealthy snacks. There will be no green salad. I'm toying with offering to bring a salad so I can effectively manage myself. For me, family food events are hands down the toughest challenge for me. Without exaggeration, my past track record is marked by failure. Yes, I think I better make a salad to bring. I will bring some Trader Joe's no guilt chunky gauc and Good Thins, too.

It's been a good Challenge week. I worked hard at breaking down the strongly rooted bad habits I have and instead focused on determination, consistency, discipline, being planful. It was a pretty tough act for me, but I became larger than the negative forces at play.

Thankful for a good Challenge Week

LOVE soup... and agree, it can be a very good tool with weight loss. Wish my family liked it more, so I could make it more often. When I make it, it's just for me. They'll only eat soup out of a can (and it's usually cream-based, too).

    I love soup too.
Sounds like you're having a mixed bag week. But you should be proud of yourself, you have a plan, you're thinking ahead and you're doing the best that you can. Try and try again. You can do this. emoticon
