STAYING ON COURSE

Scripture Reflection 

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'” ~ Isaiah 30:21 NIV

Do you know when you’re on the right track? How do you know that this time it’s going to work? Morning devotion time; maintaining a food journal; bringing your lunch to work; grocery shopping each week; taking the time to plan your day; and taking the time to exercise are actions that make us feel like we’re on track. They motivate us to stay the course and energize us to persevere for another day. These markers, or guideposts, are effective tools that keep us on track. Once we follow the guidepost, then we are guaranteed to get where we’re going.

Don’t be afraid to try something new—it might not work, but it’s okay. Making a poor decision doesn’t mean we’re forever out of God’s will. That’s the beauty of Scripture. It contains story after story of people who made bad decisions, but God still uses them mightily. Two examples include Abraham (Gen. 12:11-13) and David (2 Sam. 11). They both did things that were clearly wrong, but God worked through them to accomplish great achievements. God can use all of our decisions, whether they’re right, wrong, or neutral. What’s important is that you get on course and listen for God’s voice to direct you.

God wants to show you the path that you should follow. He has given us the promise, “My sheep hear My voice.” There are many examples of great men and women in the Bible who listened for God’s voice and then acted as a result (Hab. 2:2; I Kings 19:12). Like Habakkuk, a good tool for communicating with God is to journal what he is saying to you. Try writing out a question to him and wait for his response. You can ‘test it’ once he responds by searching the Scriptures for confirmation.

Today’s Health Challenge

In this study, we identified many areas that might be preventing you from reaching your healthy weight. I suggest you spend some time in prayer and ask God how he wants you to proceed. Listen intently for his responses and journal them. 

Today’s Confession

Thank You that You’ve promised that You would never leave me or forsake me. You are my teacher and my guide. Your ways are always right and true. I hear Your voice in all I do. Your Word guides me in all I do. I fix my eyes upon You and Your Spirit gives me direction.
