my parents used to tell us we were "full of applesauce" when we acted silly or naughty. yesterday I was just full of applesauce regardless. I had bought a big bag (about 22 pounds) of northern spy apples. this was a bad year for apples here, according to the orchardist. a late frost decimated their early harvest (including my beloved Zestars--which are what I prefer to use) and punched big holes in their late crop too--no (NONE--WAHHHHHH) jonagolds, no wolf river, no winesap. northern spy is a variety I like very much, so I settled on them--they are better after a hard frost, but jim, the orchardist, said that our weather is now so terribly dry he fears the fruit will begin falling off early, so I just grabbed them now.
I planned to save a few back, but they weren't "pretty" apples so I just made them all into 16 pints of sauce. no sugar, only lemon juice. by the time it was all done and cleaned up it was about 3 pm and I was TIRED. told my friend, sherri to stop by if she wants a couple pints--and the rest goes to the basement until our atkins program progresses to apples. I also like to use applesauce in baking, so we should be well set.
then last night a new friend of mine posted she was in her studio (she is a potter and rents a small space in town) so I went over to say hi. we visited for about an hour. angie is a hand builder, quite a bit younger than me, and truly passionate about making art. she is making Halloween things for her very first show and it's fun for me to watch someone embarking on the adventure I undertook years ago. we talked about her display and I realized I have a hanging grid I can give her to help her out ( I won't ever use it again) and we talked about covering her tables and using boxes or paint cans as risers. she showed me all the things she is working on--angie was (and kind of still is) of the "goth" persuasion, so Halloween is a big deal to her. she had kitties and pumpkins and witch hats and owls--very cute. she also had some pieces based on anime movies--not familiar to me at all. so I learned about the "catbus" and some other little characters from movies of her childhood. she is bringing me her greenware next week so I can bisque it for her. I am going to help her load the kiln so she can start learning that skill.
rainy6 this morning--FINALLY a nice soaker. time for leslie or treadmill today! have a great day!

I wondered, when I read about making applesauce, if it was allowed on your atkins program yet. At least it's all ready for you to use when that day comes.

How nice of you to help your friend!!
