Doing Great and New Job!

Saturday, September 16, 2017

It's been a while (again! lol) and things have been going great. So far this year I've lost over 22 lbs (lost 15 all of last year) and I'm continuing to lose. I was down a bit more but I always gain in summer due to eating more junk food. As long as I stick with a whole-foods, plant-based diet I can lose weight without even trying. As soon as I start having vegan junk food the weight starts to go the wrong way. Summers are the hardest because I go from having no junk food during the school year (I'm a teacher and usually teach in remote locations) to having unlimited access to junk since I stay at my parents' house.

This year will be different though because I got a position in a public school in Alberta! It's my favourite grade (kindergarten) and it's in a city! The salary is amazing, the board is fantastic, and the staff is incredible. The community is perfect because I'm adopting internationally and it's very multicultural. I have a beautiful apartment with in-suite laundry, plus dishwasher, and other great amenities including a gym. Since I'm so active at work I have yet to use it but it's awesome to have in case I decide I want to. Since I'm living in a city I have access to vegan junk all the time and surprisingly I now rarely want it. There are tons of drive thrus, there's a starbucks, there are pizza places I can get vegan pizza at...... and I don't feel like having it. Part of it is because I have a very tight budget since I'm saving for the adoption, the other part is that before it was a novelty that I had to have while I could and now it's something I can have anytime and therefore isn't as exciting.

Anyway, I'm super excited to be living and working where I am. I'm super excited that after 20+ years of battling my weight I have found such a simple solution that is helping me to lose weight and become healthier while still enjoying my food and never needing to feel hungry or count calories.
