As some of you know...Ihave been at a shelter with friends and my Lily since 2am. Almost everyone here has their pet babies with them...cats, dogs, a pig :) a rabbit...the shelter is doing a good job...feeding those that want it, national guard is here as well. I think around 1,000-1,500 people here now...hundreds of thousands throughout FL.
They have tvs in rooms and most pets are in the hallway with their owners going back and forth. It is an elementary school well thought out. Most shelters are filled to capacity, but I don't think they're turning anyone away. There is a backup generator for lights and the kitchen, but not a/c.
Irma should get here around 8pm tonight, but we are already getting heavy, windy and rainy bands. There is a curfew on all roads in the county starting at 3pm.
They have told us where to go in the buildings, if a tornado warning is issued.
My Lily seems to be holding up. All the animals are stressed, as you can imagine. Lily has burrowed under a folded quilt next to my chair. It also muffled all the dog barking...but it's hard... she's not eating or drinking, or using the litter...but neither are most of the cats. I have made friends with a few other cat owners, and we take turns watching the pets while we stretc, go to the restroom or to the cafeteria, and encourage each other.
I only slept around 20 minutes last night on the floor, with Lily by my head and I expect tonight none of us will sleep when we are in the throws of the storm.
Most of you know...16 years ago I was at ground zero on 9/11. God brought me and others safely through that horrendous day...and i have faith He will do the same now. Thank you for your prayers!
