Fire to the West - 9-5-17

Tuesday, September 05, 2017

We've had a fire burning at Big Red Park for awhile, but a new fire surfaced yesterday. The Deep Creek Fire quickly spread from 2 acres to 419 acres. They believe it is from a lightning strike a week ago; there was a fire that burned out from that which may have reignited. Julie McNally got this photo of the smoke plume and the smoke cloud covering town:

Andrew Chisholm also captured the smoke plume with a red sun poking through:

Our skies are typically bright blue. Not this Labor Day. There was ash in the air and the sun was red. Several folks got photos of just HOW red the sun was, including:

Janie Johnson:

William Kress:

And G. Frederick Reynolds:

Even the moon was an unnatural red last night, as captured by Jeff Hall:

Fortunately the fire is in a part of the county that is not highly populated, and 30 homes have pre-evacuation notices. They've pulled firefighters from the Big Red fire to fight the Deep Creek fire. Things are still smoky today (it's as if the valley outside my windows have disappeared!) but hopefully they'll have some success in getting it under control -

The pictures are beautiful, but the devastation that the fires are causing is not. I hope everyone is okay.

Unbelievable weather. And now another hurricane that may sneak up our way ... my sister in BC has had smoke from the mainland for a month.

Praying the fires will be out soon. Hard to breathe I'm sure with all the smoke. Pictures are amazing !

Praying for all who are in fire areas. So sad to think that so many are in troubled areas right now. Hurricanes, floods, fires, I even read last night that Tasmania is having a rare blizzard, how much more crazy can things get? Take care of you and stay safe.
