Walk With Me! (Spark Competition)

So the summer swimming pool system went out with more than a whimper than a bang, as the atypically cool and rainy weather made the temperature in the pool feel downright frosty.

(Yes I am more than a bit fixated on Hurricane Irma - as of Labor Day morning Florida seems imperiled yet again - but this is not a blog about meteorology).

Inasmuch as meteorological autumn is upon us whether I like it or not (and I do not), my thoughts have turned to land-based exercise and a new focus for my quantitative competitiveness. Walking.

Walking is a thing that everyone can do. This includes you. Yeah – mirror-person. You. It is free, requires no special equipment, and is cheap (no gym membership either). So let’s do this – track your mileage my any means you like (Fit Bit, Garmin, GPS, just your watch and a 3 mph assumption), whatever. I’ll post my progress here and you post yours.

One rule, the 10,000 steps or whatever you do, back and forth to the pantry for Fritos and to the fridge for beer, do not count. We’re talking purposeful walking for exercise, not the happenstance walking you do chasing after your grandkids or whatever. Make it more interesting: as Fall wears on, challenge yourself in the quality of your walking (pick up the pace, go hillier places, increase the distance per walk, etc.).

Game starts now (Labor Day) and ends at Noon on Thanksgiving Day. Honor system. The winner gets a whole bunch of RP&SE. What is RP&SE dare you ask? Why, “Recognition”, “Prestige” and “Self Esteem!” They even get their pic on my blog! (If I win you all get yet another shot of Thing One and Thing Two).

I don’t think we need a Spark Team for this (personally I do not think they work, as I have opined here in the past). That said, right here on my blog, respond below who is in? Who wants to play?

    My miles are adding up on the Four Seasons Team monthly challenge. You can subtract 4.4 miles (September 1-3) from my grand total.

    The local Feaster Five turkey day race will be "in the books" by noon on Thanksgiving Day. Have to decide ... will I complete the 5 k or 5 mile this year? Can you beat my time for a real or virtual race?
