My family and I love checking out different parks around our area. We hike so much that now we have to start driving further to see these parks. Sunday we decided that we would take the 2.5 hour drive and head down south to check out Great River Bluffs State Park here in Minnesota. I was not disappointed!
The drive down was very scenic. We go down here quite often but I have never traveled past Winona. On the drive down you are along the river which is always nice. The bluffs are super cool the further south you go. The roads get curvy at certain points making the drive interesting. And you can always spot an eagle or two!
The weather on Sunday was perfect for the hike. Slight breeze, cooler temps. We got to the park and I was in immediate awe. It was so pretty! Not knowing the park very well we drove around first checking out the camping sites and what all the park had to offer. It wasn't the biggest park we have been to but it sure had some awesome views! We decided we would hike up King's Bluff which seemed to have the best views.
Before heading down the trail this sign was there to greet us.
Thankfully we did not see any of those snakes!
We hiked up to the top which didn't take us too long. And took in the beauty!
The park allows hiking on King Bluff which was what we were on. Queen Bluff which is pictured above, is limited to only scientific research. The other side of the bluff had beautiful wild flowers and lots of green!
After soaking up the views and the guys trying to find snakes, we started the hike back down.
Most of the hike was under tree cover. And a lot of the hike had you walking over rocks and tree roots. But there were also stretches that were fairly flat.
And they had some interesting rest stops along the way!
Once we got back to the car we decided to take a look at the north and south look out areas. Both areas were just a short hike but they also had some pretty good views!

And the view....
My son was super bummed there wasn't any fishing holes at this park. He came prepared to fish with his poles in the car and picking up night crawlers on the way to the park. So to make him smile, I agreed to stopping at a few spots on our drive back to let him fish.
He is always a happy boy when fishing! No bites though... but I snapped some memories!

It was a long drive but I am glad we did it because it was a beautiful park! How about you.... Do you like to visit different parks? How far would you be willing to drive?
