Colonoscopy prep revelations

Friday, August 18, 2017

Over the next few days I'm prepping for a colonoscopy, starting with a low residue diet today and tomorrow.

As I was looking over what I'm allowed to eat, I thought, "Whoa, I can't eat anything I usually eat!" I'm used to eating mostly veggies, whole grains, brown rice, beans and fruit every day. I can't have any of that! The only veggies I can have are green beans and carrots if cooked until mushy. No thanks! Don't like mushy veggies!

As I thought about what I could eat I realized that's how I used to eat before Spark! I could go days with no veggies at all. And beans, that was for chili or baked beans as a side dish. Period. We only ate white bread, no whole wheat. Once a week or so we'd have donuts for breakfast. I haven't even thought about doing that in years, that sounds yucky now!

I'm going to miss my regular way of eating. Just glad it's only for a couple of days.

I knew my diet habits had changed over the years, but this shows me how much. A few years ago this prep wouldn't have given me a second thought.

LOL. Not easy but you're on the right track. My doctor uses Mira-lax and it seemed to work fine this time. The one before they used Suprep which wasn't for me!! We're all different so just roll with it.
Oh the reason I posted was to share the "lemon" thing. Cut up a couple and when you feel like you can't do no more just bite into it then chugalug.
    All the best!!
