My "nose job" Septoplasty
Wednesday, August 16, 2017
Long time ago...when I was 6-7 yrs old...I got hit by a baseball when playing ball at school...right in my nose between my eyes. It broke my eyeglasses in half! Back then you just had a swollen nose for a while and you never went to the dr for that. Well I started having earaches...bad ones where a blister formed on my ear drums in both ears, but especially my right one. I've had so many ear drum ruptures, I've lost count of them. I know I had at least 9 before I turned 12 yrs old. Since then I have at least one every 1-3 yrs, sometimes 2 in one year...so yes, I've lost a lot of hearing and have been wearing hearing aids now for 3 yrs. We have moved a lot so my drs have changed and about 6 yrs ago they finally started thinking it was allergy related and 5 yrs ago I had surgery on my right ear...mastoidectomy. For the last 2 yrs I've been getting allergy shots which have helped a lot, but not stopped the ear ruptures.
My current ear specialist looked in my nose and said my septum was very crooked and that I couldn't breathe right...I hadn't noticed I couldn't breathe very well, probably b/c I had this problem since childhood. Well yesterday I had surgery on my septum, Septoplasty where they break the middle bone behind the nose and take out a little section and reposition it so that it is straight. It will help my ears to drain better when I get any sinus drainage so henceforth should stop all these middle ear infections...at least that's the plan!
Yes, my nose does hurt, but it was all done on the inside so there will be no visible alterations to my face...that's a plus!
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to tell you guys what's going on with me!
