So, Taylor Swift's song "You Belong With Me" came on the radio the other day and it got me thinking about things. On how growing up so much emphasis is placed on how the girl looks and that determines the guy she will get. I remembered growing up and seeing all these girls in the bathroom making sure their hair was right their makeup still looked good etc. trying to get the guys interested in them. The guys were interested in them all right but based on how they looked not who they were. I was never one of those girls. Sure I did not attract the guys like they did and that was it's own set of issues, but I always felt that I wanted a guy that was interested in me for me not because of how I looked. Looking back on school a lot of those girls either ended up pregnant early and or married poorly. I ended up with a guy who loves me for who I am inside and out. I see these girls, these kids, in my job now at 6 years old wearing eye shadow and mascara. I keep thinking to myself that these girls are just girls, too young for makeup, too young for those hangups, These girls are pretty little girls too. Without makeup. I get to see them swimming so I get to see them without the makeup, but see the makeup coming off their faces in the pool. It's sad that we are objectifying these girls at such a young age, or that they feel the need to objectify themselves.
