Finding points on a line

Friday, August 11, 2017

If you've been following my blog a while, you'll know that I took the GRE recently. My math score was weak, so I've been thinking about taking it again.

Finding the midpoints of two lines:
(a+b/2, c+d/2)

The problem: There is a line defined by two end points (4, 3) and (a,b). The midpoints are (7, 15). What is the value of point (a,b).

a+4/2=7 and b+3/2=15

Now solve.

I didn't remember the formula for finding the midpoint of the line, so I completely guessed at the answer and was wrong.

Just goes to show that I really need to study.
