Just Catching You Up

Back in September of 2016 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Grim diagnosis I know. But the miracle is I had decided 2 years before that I don't need mammograms at my age! Yep, I'm practicing medicine! haha But with our son from Ethiopia, there are more expenses so I was always looking for fund raising opps. Well, I saw a 1 week study, using just a cream that paid $300 so I signed up. Well, it required a mammogram...set that up for the next day, had the mammo, got a call the next day that they see something suspicious. I go back the following day for magnified views. Dr comes in and says it's cancer. We need a biopsy. So she does it right then! Calls me the next day and says she has an appt for me with a surgeon. The next day! I have never seen things move so fast! I see her, we set up surgery and I have a lumpectomy. It was tiny and non invasive so they got it all! Fast forward a couple months, I see an add for Knitted Knockers. I check it out. Knitted/crocheted prosthetics for mastectomy patients. So I decide I'm learning to knit!
Now I'm coordinator of Knitted Knockers of Wichita Kansas! I have a group of ladies knitting and crocheting knockers! We use only approved yarns, follow guidelines of the national group. We're registered with the national group as a provider.
I also have talked to clinics and so far have 2 partnered with us. We provide for their patients. This is so rewarding!
If you need a knocker or know someone who does contact me if in KS or go to knittedknockers.org to order. They're free!!!
