Thought and Prayer for Tuesday, August 8, 2017

We probably know people who have bad attitudes about everything. Their bad attitude is based on their own world. If they are not getting recognized for a job well done, they get a bad attitude. If they are too stressed at home and aren’t getting what they want, they have a bad attitude. If someone says or does something they don’t like or agree with, they get a bad attitude. The cause of a bad attitude is focus on self rather than God and others. If we were to take an honest look at our attitudes, we may find out there is room for improvement. God wants our attitudes to reflect a life of goodness, peace and joy. We can get an attitude like that when we take the focus off of us and put it on God.

Romans 14:17-18 “For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too.” (NLT)

1. Write down a word that describes your attitude lately.
2. List what you believe has caused this attitude.
3. Know God has the power to help you change your attitude.
4. Allow Him to work through you to focus more on Him and what you can do to please Him.

Dear Lord, help us to really examine our attitudes. We want to be selfless not selfish. We want our attitudes to reflect goodness where we are lifting others up with encouraging words and seeking out ways to help them. We want to be peacemakers rather than stirring things up. We want to have joy knowing You are with us and love us. We want to share that joy with others. We want an attitude that is pleasing to You, O Lord. Help us today to see what we need to change and take the steps to change it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We are to have an attitude of goodness, peace and joy if we want to live to please God.

When we are more aware of our attitudes, they will be easier to change to please God.

People remember us by our attitudes not our appearance. We should put more focus on putting on a right attitude than the clothes we wear.

To change our attitudes to please God, we need His Holy Spirit working through us.

Ephesians 4:23 “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.” (NLT)

To have a godly attitude, we need to spend more time with God.

Philippians 2:5 “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” (NLT)

Part of pleasing God means we have a Christ-like attitude.
