Thought and Prayer for Monday, July 31, 2017

Monday, July 31, 2017

We have all seen movies where at the end the hero seems to find new strength to conquer the bad guy. This hero finds something within himself to give him the endurance to carry on. Where others may have been discouraged and gave up, this hero keeps going and wins. We all have that same ability. When we are discouraged about the things in life, we can go to God to strengthen us so we can conquer the enemy of doubt, worry and self-pity. If we are truly living for God and allowing Him to encourage and strengthen us, we won’t get discouraged.

Colossians 2:6-7 “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (NLT)

1. List some ways you seek out new strength.
2. Write down what God says about seeking strength.
3. Decide to go to God every day when you need help.
4. Start your day each morning in His word and in prayer to Him for continued strength.

Dear Lord, You give us countless verses in Your word about how we can put our hope in You. You tell us in Your word You will give us strength when we feel as if we can’t go on. Help us today to focus on You. Remind us to start out each day reading Your word. We want to draw our strength from You because only You can give us the real strength we need to move from discouragement to hope and peace and comfort. Thank You, Lord, for all You do. We love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God will send help to us when we call out His name and believe.

Psalm 57:3 “He will send help from heaven to rescue me, disgracing those who hound me. My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.” (NLT)

God will give us the strength we need when we are discouraged so we can endure.

Colossians 1:11 “We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy” (NLT)

If we are truly living for God and allowing Him to encourage and strengthen us, we won’t get discouraged.

Isaiah 40:31 “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (NLT)

God will give us new strength when we turn from our worry and doubt and trust in Him.
