Finally burying dad's ashes

Saturday, July 29, 2017

The cemetery where dad was buried is a small one in Raymond, NE. He always wanted to be buried by his mother who died when he was 2 after bleeding to death in childbirth along with the baby girl. Being a small cemetery there aren't as many rules and regulations so the suggested we dig the hole ourselves. Two of my brothers volunteered to do that since the only rule was it had to be 35" deep so off they went with their shovels. The oldest brother (70) did most of the work while the youngest (53) spent the day laughing. Checking to make sure it was square and the right depth. I understand why John was laughing. It was a nice day and I did some walking around looking at all the Danley family headstones. I wish I knew more of the family history. I do need to read more in the book one person put together. This (hopefully) is a photo of our stepmother with all my siblings, my sister's son, daughter in law, and grandkids plus two of our cousins from Florida. It seems the only time I see them is when we meet in Nebraska yet we live just a couple hours from them in Florida. Now hopefully the next picture will be us with our step siblings.

Okay, there's 2 of one and one of everyone. I don't really know the steps because we live so far apart and that morning only one of them spoke to me. Of course, I have never been good at conversing with others. Our mom's was professionally done-she had it all planned, along with her obit, years before she died. She wanted to make sure it said exactly what she wanted. lol
We all took turns tossing the dirt into the grave and Robert finished making it look nice. He also included some items. I don't remember it all but it included a golf ball-dad was an avid golfer along with Robert, some photos, I think, Robert' had his best golf game ever the day before and he put that score card in with the ball along with a tee. I wish I could remember the rest. My husband read a couple Bible verses when we started.

We are missing one brother who stayed in Denver rather than make a 4th trip out.
