Progress Update #21

I am slowly making progress. I'm now back in physical therapy. This week we added some easy balance exercises to the ultra sound treatments and ice. The area that was infected blistered and peeled. It now looks brown instead of bright red. A big sigh of relief here! My therapist and I noticed something strange when we started the balance exercises. It was my poor left leg that had difficulty with balance, as well as the right one. That was a surprise!
My left leg has taken a real beating. First, it was the side where we noticed the development of the bone disease and needed my first hip replacement. Next, the right side needed a hip replacement for the same reason. Then, my right knee needed to have a knee replacement revision (the 15 year old knee replacement needed to be replaced). Finally, I had the bad fall and infection (cellulitis) on the right. My poor left leg has had to carry my body weight for so long that it is tired. I was having quite a bit of pain in my back on the left side too. Once I stopped sitting with my right leg propped up and switched my cane to my right hand, the pain has subsided. Thank you God!
I am finally able to start sorting through our closets. I'm cleaning out clothes and items that we no longer use. We have made 5 trips to Good Will and I've filled our big trash container twice so far. I've purged both linen closets and our master bedroom closet, plus one double cabinet in the kitchen. I have two big boxes of linens, odds and ends plus clothes which we will mail to our oldest daughter.
I still have a to do list of two guest room closets, one double kitchen cabinet and three bookcases to go through. We have decided that we want to put our house on the market and move closer to the city where hubby works. We currently live in a very small town that offers no services to seniors. We always have to trek at least 20 miles away to go shopping and sometimes even 50+ miles (one way) to get good medical care. It was fine when we were younger but as we age, it isn't so great. So, as the housing market improves, we realize it is time to sell. Hubby has a general area picked out where he thinks we would like. I agree. We haven't started house hunting yet and won't until I finish sorting and purging. We will box up some items and put them in storage until we sell the house. It is a real job!
Oddly enough, this whole process has felt very liberating! It feels great to check off items from my very long to do list. It is definitely time for a change.
