A Glitch in the Program...or A Ditch in the Path

Monday, July 17, 2017

The last couple of days have been bad for me...I have gone way off the beaten path, so to speak. I've eaten everything I shouldn't...I've gained a pound and have knocked myself out of Ketosis. This is so not good for me...I'm just having a hard time....

As you've already pointed out, it's all about perspective.

In my experience, if I'm tempted to go off the rails with my keto program, it's one of a few, or combination of factors:
#1. social pressure (which means I didn't plan better to make sure I was satisfied before I got into the situation - an acceptable snack in my purse, for instance... but usually a cup of coffee/tea with some fat stirred in will get me through)
#2. my blood glucose has crept up on me (lack of sleep, STRESS, a little too much fruit, a taste of starchy carbs here and there, I've eaten something that has raised my inflammation levels)
#3. my electrolytes/hydration are low (need salt, magnesium, potassium)

... and my ketone levels have dropped as a result, causing my body/brain to be vulnerable. It's not simply a lack of will. Most people don't realize or acknowledge just how key and powerful physiological imbalances can be with regard to 'cravings' or temptation.

As soon as I notice the pull to go off plan, I immediately do something to deplete glucose, and raise ketones... fast for a day, get some exercise, consume some MCT or coconut oil. THEN I review the above factors and tweak/make adjustments before I feel too vulnerable to resist.

You can do this! Dust yourself off, review, tweak, move forward!

I am so sorry to hear that you have had a couple of very rough days. That can be so frustrating and disappointing. You may even feel like all is lost. But I look back at how far you have come and what you have accomplished and am amazed. You are not one to allow a setback to keep you permanently off course. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. It may be slow getting back on track, but I believe you can and will do it.
