July 12, 2017 WHEN WE DON’T OBEY

Just as children get discouraged when they don’t obey their parents, we can discouraged when we don’t obey God. When we choose our own way and decide to do what we want rather than what God wants, we can get discouraged because our life really gets messed up. When things really get messed up, we can get discouraged. If we trace back our discouragement, we find the root is disobedience to God. It may have been a bad thought, a harsh word or a wrong action. We should remember obedience to God can give us a sense of security, peace and joy.

SCRIPTURE:
Micah 6:8 “No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. List things you have done on your own.
2. Write down what happened or describe the outcome.
3. Know God wants us to obey Him for our own good.
4. Remember He loves us more than anyone else does and wants us to succeed.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You call us to obey You so we can do what is right and good. We know You have a purpose for us that is perfect and good. We know when we disobey it can cause us to worry, doubt and get discouraged. Help us to remember to look for Your direction today. We want to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with You today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we choose to obey God and love mercy, we will not get discouraged.

When we humble ourselves before the Lord, He will exalt and encourage us.

Matthew 23:12 “But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (NLT)

God calls us to do what is right so we will live in obedience to Him and not get discouraged.

When we obey God, we remain in fellowship with Him and there is no reason to be discouraged.

FOCUS:
John 3:24a “Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them.” (NLT)

When our thoughts are to remain in fellowship with God and our goal is to obey Him, discouragement will be the last thing on our minds.
