12 1/2 years ago we brought home a pup. 8 weeks old. My Daughter named her Alice.
When Alice turned a year old she would help my Hubby in the garden. Dennis was pulling weeds, put them in a pile, go back and pull more weeds. Alice watched him a bit, then decided to help. She dug up a weed, then put the weed in the pile. She repeated this over and over. When we carried the garden hose around, she would grab the hose and help us carry the hose.
Alice was smart as can be. We took Sarge and Alice on trips with us. They were so well behaved, and had so much fun together. And of course, Sarge was with me, Alice was with her Daddy. They loved going to the Lake.
And this was her face when we were on the road that led to the ranch.
We took them with us to play ball with Huck. If Alice found a extra ball, she claimed it. It was hers!
And of course there were the walks/runs in the hills. She just loved roaming the hillsides..
Two weeks ago Alice wasn't eating as much, and not very lively. We took her to the Vet. Her kidneys were failing. They also discovered half of her heart was a bit larger then the other half. They tried giving her extra fluids, and pills to help out with her appetite. She wouldn't eat in the morning, but ate most of her food in the evening. Sadly, she kept going down hill. Sunday she wouldn't eat at all. We kept her comfortable. Yesterday we decided it was time to say goodbye. It broke our heart. I especially feel for my Hubby. He called Alice "my shadow".
It had been years since he had a deep bond with a dog, Alice was Daddy's girl.
I thank God for our pets. They truly have been a blessing. I just wish it wasn't so hard to say goodbye. I will miss our sweet girl.
