My Mysterious Body
Thursday, July 06, 2017
I am so confused by my body sometimes. I went on a (much longer, granted) vacation and came home up about 3 pounds. One came off, but the scale remained up. Then I left again, only for four days this time, and truly ate horribly, and came home half a pound down from when I left. HUH?
Body, you so crazy.
I mean, I'll take it. Don't get me wrong. But what the hell?
Anyway, I jumped right off that wagon and ate everything I shouldn't in the last four days. I'm supposed to aim for 36% protein, 20% fat, and 44% carbs and over the last four days I think it's been like 40% fat and 50% carbs and 10% protein.
I'd have eggs/omelettes for breakfast with yogurt, but that was basically it for the day other than one or two protein shakes when I could get them in. I mostly ate pasta, because vegetarianism is not exactly a thing in Costa Rica and that was the only thing I could reliably get that I could be sorta assured wouldn't be meaty.
One day there were boxed lunches at the hotel. Normally, at least at most meetings I go to, there will be a few vegetarian/gluten-free/special boxes off to the side. So I went up to the table to the woman handing out the boxes and said, in Spanish, to the lady handing them out, "I am a vegetarian." And she looked right at me and said, "Not today" and handed me a box. It was a beef sandwich, tuna pasta salad, a box of pear juice, a mini can of pringles, and some sort of strange fruitcake type thing. So, pear juice and pringles for lunch. Stellar combo.
Another day there was a catered lunch and I ended up with salad and white rice.
Oh, well. Home now and moving on. I just ordered groceries online for the first time. I'm SO PICKY about produce I'm a little nervous, but I'm getting them from the good store I usually shop at in person so I think it'll be fine. If it goes well, I may never go to the store again! (Before, online groceries were only from the store with the bad produce so I've never tried it.)
Anyway, home ~9 days and then gone again for another week, but then I'll be home for a bit more than a month so then I can really focus.
