July 3, 2017 WHY ARE WE DISCOURAGED?
We all have probably had times in our lives where we were discouraged. Sometimes we knew exactly why. Other times we may not have been able to pinpoint the reason at all. There are times we ask ourselves why we are so down and out. Anytime we are discouraged, we have moved away from God. There is no way we can be praising Him and putting our hope in Him and be discouraged at the same time. So if we find ourselves going through discouraging times, it’s a good sign that we need to get our focus back on God.
Psalm 43:5 “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!” (NLT)
1. List ways you have been discouraged in the past.
2. Write down how this world discourages us.
3. Pray asking God to keep you from getting discouraged.
4. Stay focused on God, put your hope in Him and praise Him.
Dear Lord, help us to remember quickly when we are discouraged to put our hope and trust back on You. We know we can easily get sucked into this world where we begin to worry or doubt or conform to this world but You tell us not to. You tell us to allow You to transform us into a new person by changing the way we think. We know it is not a one-time process but a lifelong journey. Help us each day, Lord, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we are discouraged, it is a reminder to turn our eyes to Jesus.
We need to make it a habit to turn quickly from discouraging thoughts and put our minds into God’s word.
God wants us to focus on Him so when we are tempted to be discouraged, He can help us.
When we put our hope in God and praise Him, we will find new ways to have joy rather than be discouraged.
God can help us to change the way we think so we are not discouraged but we are learning to do His will.
Romans 12:2a “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” (NLT)
When we choose to focus on God, we will be less discouraged and thinking more on what He wants us to focus on.
