Day 52 of Gratitude in 100 Days of Gratitude

Wednesday, June 28, 2017

Another hike up the 35 degree angle mtn across the road from our house (which is at 8,600' above sea level). I climbed & climbed up a mtn only to reach more "up" and more "up" and then I was on the 2-track slightly inclined "road" (not a road..just "land"). Up ahead are two deer and a fawn. I stopped. We stared at each other. They're not dangerous at all, but they get spooked if you move a muscle. Suddenly the 2 does (moms) bounced up the road. And the fawn bounced down the road toward me! Yay! "Mom" came down to the fawn & we stared at each other some more. Then they bounced away together.

Then the butterflies started hiking with me! Gorgeous, all sizes and colors and they always lead the way for me. I heard a tree branch crack not far away in the woods (an animal had stepped on it and broken it) and I stepped over some bear scat (look it up if you don't know what that is). Walked 10,000 steps. I'm grateful for beautiful Colorado!

The last two days were spent "jeeping" with DH & his cousin, Cindy. "Jeeping" means driving up roads that are wide enough for only ONE car-- no room for another car to pass by--even though there ARE cars coming fr0m the other direction--we just drive up the edge of the mtn & park until they go by (yikes!). The mountains we drove up reached 13,000 feet above sea level. Most of the time we drove at 3- 4 mph over solid rock roads and up (sometimes almost straight up) over huge boulders. No guard rails ...just a drop off of 1,000-2,000 feet down, down, down.

I worked hard to be a good sport (i.e. not scream my lungs out with terror!) but I did refuse to drive our brand new Jeep up these roads. My cousin said I would feel such confidence if I would drive her smaller Jeep and "just see how incredibly safe these cars are." I thanked her, but I'll build confidence some other putting a stick of dynamite in my bra!

I am grateful that our Jeep really can crawl over rocks at 1 mph with sliding backwards down mountains, Very grateful.

All sounds so Bambi-beautiful. Only I have deer in my yard every day... eating all my flowers and attempt at an herb garden. My hostas, their favorite, are little 1/2 inch ground cover. :( And spooked! Never! I run outside and jump up and down clapping my hands and shouting, "Go away!" and they just look at me with a bored "What's your problem?" look and stand there. One just sat down. :( I had to laugh. It's their land after all.

Sounds so quiet and peaceful for walking.
