Surgery

Monday, June 26, 2017

Turns out I have innumerable gall stones and the doctor has recommended surgery to remove my gall bladder. It would be laparoscopic so at least very small scars! I guess I will be having it - scheduled for 7/27 because I will be going to VA for my annual Girls Weekend the week before.

If there is anyone who has had the surgery - I am not sure what I will have to modify in terms of what I eat, etc. - I would love to hear what others have dealt with.

The crazy part is that 2 weeks after that I am scheduled for my first colonoscopy! UGH - not looking forward to that either, but I should have had it done 6 years ago at least so it is overdue for the initial one. Lots to deal with in just over a month!

Thanks for the information all! Unfortunately I do have to drink the nasty stuff before the colonoscopy! Not looking forward to that, for sure! 😝

I had laparoscopic gall bladder surgery when it was fairly new - about 24 years ago. I found that cutting out as much fat from my diet as I could while waiting for the surgery greatly reduced the severity of any gall bladder attacks. I did stay overnight but that could have been because the surgery was very new. Since the surgery I find that rich foods can be harder to digest and limit them in my diet. I have heard that some people have problems with peanuts after having their gall bladder removed but I can eat a measured portion without any problem. I seem to remember needing about 3 days till I felt mostly normal, I had a nine month old at the time though so that could have affected my recovery. Wishing you a speedy recovery after the surgery. Thoughts and prayers. emoticon

have not had the surgery but know several who have done it that way. usually out of the hospital the same day unless they have to do the other route

google the procedure. tells you what to expect after the diet .. and anything else you need to know.

the colonspectomy is not bad at all but that darn prep. some doctors make it easy and you take pills instead of drinking that nasty stuff

I have not had the surgery. My best friend had it as a teenager. This was long before laparoscopic. I know it took awhile for her to recover. But with the medical advances. I think your recovery time will be much less. You will do fine.
