Week 25: Slowly but surely
Monday, June 19, 2017
My weight loss has definitely slowed down since my summer break started. I am still keeping with my exercise and training, now for both a sprint triathlon in mid-July and a 10K in early August, but I admit I have relaxed a bit food-wise. I am still tracking everything and still making the vast majority of my choices to be healthy ones, but with summer comes more cookouts, more going out to eat, and less structure to my day, so it is hard to be as rigorous as I was in the spring.
I am keeping to the following rules though:
1. Track, even when I know I am going over
2. Choose more vegetables, leaner protein, more complex carbs and fewer refined ones
3. Find better options -- if I go out, I opt things like the grilled chicken sandwich with no cheese and a side of broccoli rather than the burger and fries
4. Exercise, exercise, exercise! This is the easiest to keep up -- I feel honestly wretched if I go more than a day without a dedicated workout. I must do at least 30 minutes, but most days it is 60-90. However, my "rest days" usually include something like yard work or house cleaning, so even then I'm doing something.
So it is slow going, with lots of mini-plateaus, but I am still moving forward. I had hoped at one point to be "overweight" by the end of August. That's probably not going to happen, since I still have about 16 lb to lose to get there, but I know the choices I am making are sustainable and that I will get there eventually. Slow is better than not at all!
