funny how things work out sometimes

So, my previous work contract ended on May 5. It was supposed to run until the 4th of July, more or less. But budgetary issues caused a reassessment on their part, and we were all told the project was ending early. Why they couldn't have just let the people who came on board with an end date of may go in May and kept the rest of us with the longer contracts on until the end, I don't know, but I digress.
Now, we had relatively short notice on this. I mean, if I were the type to have 3 irons in the fire at all time, sniffing out new contract while the old ones were still running, I'm sure I would have been able to find something for May, or maybe June. But I'm not, I'm ok with having down time between contracts (or, at least I've become ok with it...4 years ago, it used to freak me out), and besides, I had a couple of thoughts for things to do in May, so I didn't really look too hard.
As it turns out, with getting sick (migraine-like headaches, not that I've ever been diagnosed with migraines) the week after the contract ended, my eyelid blowing up thereafter (chalazion/stye), then my birthday and a trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls, and then another migraine bout, the one that led me to the ER and finding out about the tumor, and now the lead up to next week's surgery...gotta say, the contract getting cut short, and the timing which that happened, that was...dunno, fortuitous doesn't seem like the right word, since I'd rather have had the opportunity to earn that income, but the timing worked out well.
