Three days of no sugar

Thursday, June 08, 2017

I got through yesterday ok, and today I have a boost in energy, and a little bit of a boost in mood. That's amazing for this time of year for me! The heat usually turns me into a sloth. I'd rather hibernate in summer than in winter,so having a wee bit more energy feels amazing. I have my usual mold headache after four days of rain, though, but ibuprofen should take care of that presently.

Given the proven improvement that giving up sugar causes, I'm going to focus on staying away from it for a while. My sweet tooth has diminished a bit from when I was a kid, but it's still there. However, the world is trying more and more to accommodate people who don't eat sugar, and that helps. I have an FB friend who has a serious heart condition and she has to limit her carbs drastically for her health, and she's always sharing recipes she's made, and she's a great source for sugar free treat recipes. I don't know that the high fat diet she follows would be great for me, because in my genetic reports, one of the things I need to look out for is saturated fat. But other than that her recipes are useful.

The genetic reports also say that being a supertaster runs in my genetics. I'm not surprised, since certain tastes made me feel sick when I was a kid, but it's kind of good to know. My ability to both smell and taste has diminished as I age, sadly. I may someday be able to eat both rhubarb and parsnips without retching. But now I know why I can't do it at the moment.

While I visited my family in Oklahoma last month, we went to the Pioneer Woman Mercantile to eat, and it was delicious, if not diet-worthy. I did learn that I'm capable of standing for two hours, which is nice. This Saturday I'm attending a rally where I could be standing for four hours, and I hope I can do it. It will be hotter than it was last month, and I honestly don't know if I'm yet physically capable of standing that long. But I guess I'll see.

Ok, I'm off to the rest of my day. I'm hoping for day 4 of successful no-sugar battle!

I gave up chocolate and Dr.Pepper on 2-22-17! I had gotten to the point I would go through a 12 pack of Dr Pepper in 24 hrs! And sweets were always my weakness so starting out I would eat Apples anytime I wanted something sweet to curb my craving
