I can’t believe it’s been 7 months since I last posted a blog. I’ve been away far too long but it’s been for many reasons. I’ve had a rough year with switching jobs, my baby brother dying and Rich and I losing our son at only 15 weeks of pregnancy 3 weeks ago. Rest in peace our sweet baby angel R.J. You are forever in our hearts.
What our baby had was a rare anomaly. It only happens 1 out of 10,000 pregnancies and we just happen to be the 1. We were just unlucky as the maternal specialist put it. It can sometimes happen due to not having enough folic acid in your body to help the baby develop fully. Even though I took prenatal vitamins for 6 months before we conceived it was not enough. Although we are distraught and in pain because of losing our baby what he had was not sustainable with life. Had he made it to birth, he would have been born, blind, deaf and unable to feel and he would have only lived from a few minutes to a few hours. That would have been horrendous and even more painful for us. Now we have another angel in heaven looking out for us. I know my mom and brother are taking good are of him until we are together again.
Our doctor said we can try again in 2-3 months so in August or September we will start trying again. Losing our son really instilled in Rich and I the awareness of how much we want a child and a family. It’s also brought us so much closer together.
Losing our baby has really spurred me on to get in the best shape I can by August or September. I had gained close to 25 lbs mostly because I was put on insulin since I am type II diabetic and pregnant. It didn’t help that all I wanted to eat was spicy chicken sandwiches from Wendys. RJ wouldn't let me consume any other chicken. Just someone saying the word chicken made me gag.
My doctor decided to keep me on insulin to tightly control by blood sugar and also high doses of folic acid so that it’s built up in my system before we try to conceive. The recommended amount of folic acid for pregnant women is 400 mcg a day. I have to take 5,000 mcg a day.
So I’m back to log my calories, be accountable and get support from my SP peeps. My goal is to lose the 25lbs I put on before we start trying and exercise 5-6 days a week for at least half an hour so that when I do get pregnant, exercise is a habit and I can keep doing it throughout the pregnancy.
Now on to my food!
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with veggies, one morning star “sausage” patty, hot sauce, two tortillas and half caf coffee
Fun Stuff: First day of the Farmers market and I dragged Rich along. He always says I only bring him to be my pack mule, lol. Got lots of delicious veggies and farm fresh eggs.
Snack: Green Machine smoothie from our local health food store. I never get protein in my smoothies but the woman making them said that it helps blood glucose control so you don’t get a spike and a crash so I went with it. The plant protein made it kind of chalky so I only drank half.
Lunch: Chicken fingers, sweet potato fries, a pickle and broccoli
Dinner: Panera pick two with the southwest chili lime ranch salad with chicken, broccoli and cheese soup, French baguette and caffeine free diet coke.
Exercise: 1.5 mile walk at this beautiful walking path by my house. This is where Rich and I went on our first date 6 years ago.
After dinner snack: Not hungry but my blood sugar was low so I needed a snack. Half a glass of whole milk and an organic dark chocolate mocha almond bar. It was from Aldi and tasted exactly like a kind bar but soooo much cheaper

Brunch: Slept in a bit and then Rich and I went to go have brunch. I got a cup of cream of chicken and rice soup and the Chipotle chicken salad. OMG, I loved that there was a half of an avocado on my salad. I loooove avocado.
Salad was huge so I didn't eat it all. Here is what was left over. Felt proud that I didn't eat it just because I was there. I only ate until I was full.
Fun Stuff: Rich and I checked out a car show. It was a fund raiser for the local shelter where we got our adorable, sweet kitty, Fynn. Fynn is our little sweet ginger angel. When I was pregnant he would curl up on my stomach and happily purr for sometimes hours at a time. This is him on my tummy.
Snack: Mint chocolate chip protein bar
Fun Stuff: Spent some awesome time on the lake. The water was still pretty cold so we just dipped our toes in and people watched.
Lunch: We brought subway and white cheddar popcorn to the beach to enjoy
Snack: After the beach, you always need ice cream, duh! This was a strawberry cow pie
from the Twisted Cow ice cream shop. It’s kind of like a dilly bar from Dairy Queen
Dinner: Decided to make it easy on us since we had been out of the house all day. Picked up a rotisserie chicken and pre-made German potato salad and fresh veggies from the salad bar.
Exercise: Then we went for a 35 minute walk around the neighborhood.
After dinner snack: Chocolate pudding

I know some of this is probably water weight and the fact that I’m not having to produce more blood for the pregnancy but I’ll take it.
This weekend was fun with lots of walking. I think the food choices were pretty good especially for being out and about a lot. Felt good to be active and outside in the sunshine.
