The Pain of Perfectionism

I have a question to ask of you.
Do you take a moment to pause and reflect on all the good things you do; even " small accomplishments?" Do you tell yourself "good job" for hard work?
Do you congratulate yourself for that non scale victory?
When someone tells you how wonderful you look, do you secretly think 'they must have me confused with someone else?'

Over a lifetime I have had to re-evaluate perfection. Is that something I want now.? .... And what is it exactly? Can we measure it; hold it in our hands, or hang on to it forever? When I hear someone say, "I am a perfectionist" .... something in me winces. Don't get me wrong, I haven't lowered my standards, or compromised my values. But now I am pacing myself so that I get more time for L-I-V-I-N-G and finding time for enjoyment. I wrote this down so I can park my A personality. My new goal includes some TLC.

1. Relaxation.
2. Pampering .... spa date or pedicure
3. Sit with a book in on the patio.
4. Relief from rush hour living.
5. Lunch with a friend.

I had to ask myself: "Must everything be ' perfect' to bring happiness ....or could that perfectionism cause pain? I have lived both ways, and found trying to reach 'perfect' in an imperfect world is as futile as trying to capture a butterfly. It is fleeting, illusive, and I am sure each one of us would describe "perfect' in different ways. Much like the artist .... what is beautiful to one may be not so to another.

I got a chuckle from a spark friend who said to those A personalities .... "Oh not me ... I'm a C personality!" And you know, when life is over one day, no one will say: "She kept such a clean house; her bed was always made and not a speck of dust to be found! LOL ....
Well, a brand new week rolled around again so hope all goes well for you and thanks for reading!
P.S. Added later ... LOVE your posts ... all great! I liked the one about "I am a recovering perfectionist." .... yes, that's me, but thankful I have a hubby who says he is a B personality and while very organized, he is the best at learning to relax and chill. So it helps a lot!
