Dance With The One That Brought You

i had to make a 'major' decision during the third re-write of my novella. I had written a 17K+ story. It was my first attempt at a serious story. It did have comic relief. During the second draft I noticed I had written more description than story. For some reason I had told my reader what to think. I don't write for the non-creative reader. There are way too many of those authors doing that now. Yes, their books appear to be selling, and that's what makes that style Sad.
I give my readers hints as to what motivates my characters actions. Hints as to what a character looks like. I don't write puzzles. But if you've ever read Agatha Christie or Sherlock Holmes, or even Mickey Spillane (I the Jury), you know what I'm talking about.
If you enjoy reading fiction in excess of 400 pages, you don't know.
Back to the dance. I'm dropping the serious writing for now. The fourth re-write will be mostly humor. My draft readers all agree.
There is an itch though that will bring me back to writing a serious story. I will leave it unscratched for now.
