I was on the road this week and I am happy to report that I had another successful time. I planned head and packed my lunch and snack each day. I ate breakfast at the hotel since it was free, but fortunately they had plenty of items that worked. They have boiled eggs, turkey sausage, yogurt and fruit. It was quite yummy! Since I was in the city I used to live in, I connected with friends every night and went out to eat. I Love Sushi and we don't have any good sushi restaurants where I live now, so I did eat sushi on two separate nights. It certainly wasn't the most healthy form of sushi, but I ate until I was full and that was it. Such a great feeling to be in control and doing that so well. I've also gotten into the habit of having a very small sweet snack in the evenings. For example I bought some wheat Fig Newtons and allowed myself a reasonable portion each night with a small cup of decaf coffee. Believe it or not planning ahead like that seems to work. I'm not a huge Binger on sweets, so planning a sweet snack seems to help me not get in that mode. If I kept any kind of chips or salty snack in the room I think I would find that to be a challenge. So having something like the Newtons in the room keeps me from being tempted to bring things back. I also think that planning ahead and knowing that I am going to have a snack is helpful as well. The other great habit I've Incorporated that I'm sticking to is getting up early to exercise. I actually got a little frustrated because I had booked this hotel because they have an indoor pool. However it doesn't open until 9 a.m. I asked the manager since it's not like they provide a life guard or anything. Turns out he was just the sales manager, but he actually got me permission to use the pool by the last day that I was there. They also had an exercise room so on the days that I didn't swim, I used the elliptical and the treadmill.
I'm home for the next two weeks doing a lot of planning and prep. I'm going to keep up the habit of getting up early and getting my exercise in first thing. That not only keeps me on track, but I just feel better, work better, and sleep better when I live that way. It also makes it less likely that I'm going to binge or over eat during the day, because I don't want to mess up the good work that I've already done.
The last two days have been all about music. We went out to see a friend's band on Friday night. Yesterday we went to a local Musical Festival where a couple of my other friends bands were playing. Oh yeah, and I forgot to tell you that I have really been working hard on my solo act. I also booked 2 gigs for June and July. I tend to work better when I know I have a deadline, and it keeps me from copping out. Since the venue advertises, it's not like I can chicken out at the last minute. I've gotten a really cool setlist which I'll share with you guys later. So I've been practicing a lot which is also good for my spirit. A couple of my other friends that I recently met also asked me to get involved in an Americana project. So that's also stretching my creative muscles as well. I even dragged out a bunch of originals from way back in the day that they really like and we're going to incorporate into the act. I'll keep you posted.
I hope everybody's doing great. I've been trying to keep up with all of your blogs when I can. I always subscribe to your blogs, but it seems like sometimes SparkPeople stops sending me the notifications. Anyway thank you all for your ongoing support.
