Are SparkStreaks habit forming?

Today marks 126 days that I have logged in to SparkPeople and 126 days of tracking my food and water. They are my SparkStreaks. I am surprised by how quickly time has passed; how routine it is for me to turn to SparkPeople and continue my “streaks.”

Which leads to my question: when do my streaks become my habits? Are SparkStreaks habit forming?

Like most Sparkers, when I began, I wanted to lose weight and become healthier (physically and emotionally). Stress, anxiety and unhappiness were consuming me on a daily basis. Life had lost its fun.

My beginning goal was to start small and go slow. To do one or two things until they became ingrained. So for the last 126 days, I would log in to SparkPeople. Each day, I would track my food and water. I began to add a little here and a little there: I track my sleep (8 hours every night!); I track my fruits and vegetables (at least 5 every day!); I track “me” time (10 minutes every day!); I track inspirational/motivational moments (at least 1 every day!). As time passes, I keep adding new things to track: how much coffee and wine I drink (less and less); how much exercise I do on a daily basis (no great streak there, but improving.)

After 126 days, I do not know if my SparkStreaks have turned into permanent habits. I do know that I feel better, healthier. My stress and anxiety levels are way down. My interactions with others are much more positive. And, I am having fun again. Oh, and I have lost 19.2 pounds. Not bad.

So, this marks blog #1. Maybe, it will be the beginning of another habit forming SparkStreak.
