Putting it all behind me.

Sunday, May 21, 2017

I have spent the past 4 months working on getting my brother's estate taken care of. Alternating between tracking down bank accounts and cleaning out his property I let my own house get the bare essentials.

I believe I have found all his assets, paid all his bills, and emptied his property to the point where I was able to sell it. My garage is full of his "treasures" although my garbage bin is full from things my sister decided were garbage while she helped me set up for the garage sale. The weather messed up the garage sale, although we did get in 2 1/2 hours on Friday, and I considered doing it again next weekend. My sister is willing to help.

But both of us are over 70 and dealing with arthritis. There were enough assets in the estate that this is not about the money. It is more about not throwing out stuff that someone could use. Growing up poor, we have an innate aversion to waste. I have been reading a book that gives me great ideas (and motivation) to organize my OWN home. (Does this Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?) And I am more than ready to get to work on THAT.

So I think I have decided to bite the bullet, call Easter Seals, box everything up and take back my garage for our cars. Then I can do like the book says and create the environment that I want to live in.

Thank you for your support.
