Training for the Next Challenge

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

I'm addicted to challenge. Now that my National Board submission is turned in, I'm ready to focus on my next challenge: Testing for my 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo on June 23-24.

The test may or may not include the following:
Performing 15 forms
Knowing Korean definitions for forms
Performing any number of kick combination as they are called out
Running 1-2 miles
Full-contact sparring for three minutes (minimum three rounds)
"13 minutes of pain" (consecutive one-minute drills of punching, kicking, push-ups, etc.)
Performing defensive take-downs
Escaping from an attacker who sits on you
Escaping from a choke hold
Fighting with weapons
Random attacks

Whew! There's a lot of training involved, but it's super-fun. Coincidentally, I need to lose these stress-pounds that I've gained over the past couple of months. (It's also great timing to fit into my summer shorts -- pretty sure none fit right now!)

That Taekwondo list sounds very scary to me - good luck!

Best wishes with both training for your second degree black belt and with fitting into your summer shorts. That's a good goal.

Congratulations. Karate is full of energy and you can shed a lot of exercise points. My grandson did this when he was young and it was wonderful for keeping you focused and learning moves.

You are on the right track.
