My husband and I are in California babysitting our two grandkids, age 8 and 5, while their parents are taking a 10-day trip to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.

It's always a struggle for me to eat less when I am here.

First of all, it takes me days to get used to the 3-hour time difference. Mealtimes and bedtimes are always way too late for me.
I am ready for dinner at 3pm, not at 6pm local time (which is really 9pm for me).
So I am usually tired and hungry for the second half of every day -- at least for a few days.
I eat more than I should.

Being tired also cuts my motivation for walking too ....even though the weather and scenery is spectacular.

In days gone by, I would be feeling bad about myself because of all this. But this time, instead, I am prioritizing things in my life.

I have told myself that most important - I will enjoy my grandkids. I will rest and eat when I can, without overdoing it. And I will not stress about my weight.

When I am back home again in my own schedule - I can get back into my eating and exercising routine.

Right now, though, we're off to swim lessons.....
